The Freedom House criticizes Kazakhstan for the pressure on the media.
International human rights organization Freedom House Condemns Kazakh government for its failure to obligations to protect freedom of speech, according to a report released Thursday on the website of the organization in connection with the determination of the court of Almaty to seize the products of the five media. The decision was rendered on February 1 at the suit of the Vice-Chairman of the Foundation SamrukKazyna "Timur Kulibayev requiring rebuttal information spread by disgraced businessman Mukhtar Ablyazov.
In a statement, Freedom House emphasizes that the ban on publication of the media was imposed at a time when the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Kanat Saudabayev played in Washington about Kazakhstan's commitment to democratic principles of the OSCE.
"The hypocrisy of the Government of Kazakhstan is amazing. It is trying to convince American policy makers in their intention to support the democratic principles of the OSCE and defiantly represses its media ", - said Paula Schriefer, a representative of Freedom House.
