Korra struggles to find a deeper connection with the Spirit World as she and the gang attend a Southern Water Tribe festival. The Southern Lights. S2, Ep2. The Legend of Korra - Book Two: Spirits on Blu-ray is a must-download for fans of Nickelodeon's acclaimed animated series. Book Two: Spirits is the second season of the animated TV series The Legend of Korra by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It consisted of fourteen.

After the events of Book One, the business is struggling, and Asami must do what she can to restore it to its former glory. She is an avid race car driver, martial-arts specialist, and former love interest of Mako. That's bound to cause tensions between her and Korra. Simmons Avatar Aang's only airbending child, Tenzin was, for a while, the sole airbender on the planet, making him de-facto head of the Air Nomads both globally, and as a representative in the Republic City council roles which he takes very seriously, along with literally everything else.

As of the end of Book One, the usually calm and contemplative Tenzin was still teaching the hot-headed Korra the art of airbending while helping her connect with the spirit world. Just like Korra, he is an exceptionally talented physical bender.

However, that is where his skills end, for he lacks a spiritual connection to the people of the Northern Water Tribe, who he was suppose to lead.

Instead, he chose a life of relative peace in the Southern Water Tribe. He is the chief of the Northern and Southern Water Tribes. Opposite to his brother, he has a strong connection with the Spirit World, and is set to be a key player in the events of Book Two.

Beyond their gender, they're pretty similar. They show very little emotion, except for boredom and a distaste for most things, including Korra and the Southern Water Tribe.

The Legend of Korra - Book 2: Spirit

He is a non-bender, and former commander in the United Forces. After the Equalist Revolt, he retired from the army and chose to live on Air Temple Island with his younger brother, Tenzin.

Personality wise, the pair are complete opposites. This conflict is sure to provide plenty of sibling clashes going forward. She is a water bender, having followed her mother, and seems to combine the clear head that Tenzin has when necessary, alongside Bumi's wild side at other times, especially around her brothers.

The Verdict

Varrick spends most of his time travelling the world on his yacht. He's super important, but his identity is super spoilerific until later in the season. I know it may seem a bit silly to write about all the other new characters and not Wan, but if you don't know who he is already you will appreciate me not telling you once you find out.

Seriously, he's a megaton as far as Avatar lore goes.

If you really want to know he is spoiler! Spoiler the very first Avatar, and will have a double episode dedicated to his story. She fades away, assuring her father that they'll see each other later.

Meanwhile, Korra's battle with Unalaq turns bad for her. Bo Lin and Mako were unable to keep him out of the spirit realm. He returned and fused with Vaatu to become the Dark Avatar.

A ferocious battle ensues and Vaatu draws Raava out of Korra, smashing the spirit of light against the rocks and severing the bond between Korra and her past lives. Tenzin, Kya and Bumi find the trio and submerge them in spirit water so that Kya can heal them.

Once healed, Korra is still shaken from her fight. Tenzin takes Korra to the Tree of Time, where Vaatu was imprisoned, and shares some of his new found self-respect with her. She meditates, reaching deep into her own spirit, and finds the power to touch the fabric of reality itself.

Studio Myr, again, animates the whole crazy battle wonderfully, and the magnificent score, with all of its Eastern influence, compliments the scene perfectly, adding a gracefulness to the combat. Things are looking grim for Korra.

She tried to find traces of Raava within Vaatu, the light in the darkness, but there was none. Then, Jinora shows up Its a pretty sudden finish to the climax and its a little disappointing. Jinora feels like a deus ex machina, especially since no one offers any explanation as to where she went when she disappeared or what she did when she suddenly reappeared. When Jinora finally returns to her physical body, she tells everyone that Korra saved the world.

With the actual events being so fuzzy though, I'm not entirely sure that she did. Korra, too, returns to her physical body where she fuses, once again, with Raava. However, she no longer has a connection to the Avatar's past lives.

The cycle has been broken and must start over from scratch. It's an interesting new state for Korra that nicely reflects the season's theme of stepping out from shadows of the past.Although, after meeting the first Avatar and learning about what she needs to do to save the world, she does seem to become wiser and a bit more tactical.

Just why? The frustrating thing about the Spirit World is that its like an extended dream sequence in that writers don't need to obey rules of logic and can just use it as an excuse to have character development simply happen on a whim.

List of The Legend of Korra episodes. He returned and fused with Vaatu to become the Dark Avatar. Retrieved 17 July She appreciated the nuanced portrayal of Korra's and Mako's relationship and Korra's character flaws, but remarked that Unalaq was being set up as the season's antagonist a bit too obviously. That sounds interesting, a civil war, brother against brother, a nice place for conflict and how horrible such a war is to people.
